Videomaking for campaigns
Tutorial session
This hands-on training workshop covers both the morning and afternoon sessions. It will be a whistle-stop introduction to effective videomaking for campaigns, including basic filming technique, and video editing for use online:
- New media outlets for film
- Basic functions of a camera
- Film Grammar
- Introduction to campaign film footage
- Conducting interviews & voxpops
- Editing your footage
Industry expert guests will be attending to offer advice in the morning and afternoon sessions.
There will be a practical assignment over the lunch break, in which students go on-location – filming voxpop reactions from event attendees. The afternoon session of the day will be all about editing those voxpops into a 60 second film to show to the main conference hall in the final session.

- Anna Burton: TUC Education
Anna is an education officer working for the TUC, with ten years working in the trade union movement. She recently launched a series of courses to train trade unionists how to make short films for the web, and consider how film can be used within the trade union context. She alsos organise the TUC 60 Second Ad Contest, which encourages the making of TV-style ads to help promote trade unionism. - Other speakers to be confirmed
